About Steve Schmidt

Steven Schmidt is the Vice President of Engineering and Technology for the Sikorsky line of business. In this role, he is responsible for over 3200 global engineering professionals providing engineering support to all Sikorsky development, production, sustainment, and aftermarket programs. Steven is also responsible for technical oversight of Sikorsky Research & Development projects, and Sikorsky Innovations advanced programs.

Previously, he was the Chief Engineer for the Heavy Lift Program responsible for both the CH-53E and CH-53K platforms. His leadership responsibilities spanned all aspects of the program to include development, flight test, production, sustainment, and support of International opportunities. He was the authoritative technical point of contact between Sikorsky and the United States Government for the CH-53.

Steven joined Sikorsky in 1993. Leadership responsibilities began in 2005 when Steven became Chief System Engineer on the Canadian Maritime Helicopter Program (CMHP). He was selected to be the Senior Program Manager for the MH-60S helicopter in 2009 and then also assumed responsibility for the MH-60R helicopter with total combined yearly revenue of over $750M. Steven returned to CMHP in 2012 as Chief Engineer to help restructure the Contract and where he was part of the team who successfully delivered the required capability to Canada. Steven then spent a short time as Director of Design before being asked to become the Chief Engineer of the CH-53 program in August 2018.

Steven holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
